The research began and the 100% East dogs were purchased, and her breeding program began in 1988. A fun fact later found out down the road, Pam had the pleasure of meeting and fostering a daughter from the famous Sieger Bodo v. Grafental. Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation used a lot of east dogs in their program.

In 1998,Pam became involved in breeding Cairn Terriers and purchased 3 sisters from one litter to start her breeding program with this breed. They came from an excellent show pedigree. Not being much of a small dog person at the time, She grew to like their fun, happy personality. They also are a tough, hardy breed and reminded her of how similar they were to the shepherd sharing the same love of swimming, retrieving and guarding. They also get along great with the shepherds.

Pam is not a big show breeder but does have top quality dogs and lines and has shown her stud dogs to their AKC championship title. Her goal is to breed quality, healthy, happy companions for families.

Who We Are

Pam Lake is the owner of Hena-C Kennel. Being a dog lover for her whole life, she fell in love with the German Shepherd as a kid and wanted to have one. Unfortunately, her father was afraid of them and she couldn’t get one. She did convince him to let her foster them from Fidelco Guide dog foundation her senior year in high school and was lucky enough to keep one of her fosters Uta that was not kept in the program. This started her journey with the German Shepherd breed.

Pam and Uta as her pupil, attended professional dog trainers school and Uta quickly taught her how wonderful the breed was and Pam discovered just how intelligent, versatile and loyal they were. Once graduated, Uta became her demonstration dog for her business. After being a dog trainer for 3 years, Pam decided she would like to start breeding and began the process of getting a female and learning about the whole process. She did not start with the East German lines until she happen to meet a dog in the parking lot of a burger king who caught her attention. This dog looked like a wolf. This dog was different. Big, very dark, blocky head, large feet and bone. He was breathtakingly gorgeous! Running across the parking lot, she spoke with the owner who stated he was an East German dog. Pam used him as a stud for her 3rd litter and the rest is history. East German dogs it was.
